"We make spirits one batch at a time, close enough to the work to catch what a machine would miss."
The founder
Abiqua Spirit Distillery was founded by Adam Messick in Silverton, Oregon. In the ten years we've spent in the craft spirits industry, we've learned that the honest, small-scale work matters more than the marketing around it. Adam, with help, does the day-to-day work of distilling, blending, bottling, and labeling each release by hand.
None of this has happened alone. Abiqua has grown with the steady support of family and friends whose help, in ways both visible and not, has kept the distillery going. The recipes, the labels, the bottles that leave the building: the path to each of them has been shaped by the people around Adam who cared about the work. This is a small business in the most literal sense, and it carries their fingerprints as much as anyone's.
The distillery
The name comes from Abiqua Creek, which runs through the forest east of Silverton, Oregon. The creek, and the waterfall it forms a few miles upstream, sit at the eastern edge of the Willamette Valley where the foothills of the Cascades begin. The land we are from is quiet, wet, and heavily forested. That has shaped the work.
We are a small operation, producing in small batches and releasing in limited quantities. Every bottle leaves here the way it came together. By hand. No automated line. That is true of the label, the cap, and the liquid, and it is true of the bottle we held a few minutes before you did.
After a decade of this work, we've learned which decisions matter and which don't. The shape of the bottle matters less than the blend inside it. The marketing matters less than whether the person who opens it pours a second glass. In our experience, the only way to earn that second pour is to keep the batches small and stay close enough to the work to catch what a machine would miss.
Our spirits
Silverton Vodka is an ultra-premium potato vodka. Clean and smooth with a creamy finish. It received the American Distilling Institute's Gold Medal in 2019 and won Silver at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition.
Gallon House Gin is juniper-forward with rose, coriander, citrus, and a touch of cucumber. It is named for the covered bridge a few miles up the road, where locals traded bootleg spirits by the gallon during Prohibition. Silver medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition.
Üla Orange Liqueur is a warm, bright orange liqueur with bitter-orange peel depth and honey notes. It is built for the cocktails that take orange liqueur seriously, and it is the liqueur we write recipes around. Silver medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition.
